BSF issues high alert along India-Bangladesh border as Sheikh Hasina flees amid unrest.

The Border Security Force (BSF) has issued a high alert along the India-Bangladesh border in response to the worsening law and order situation in Bangladesh. The Director General of the BSF has arrived in Kolkata to oversee and manage the heightened security measures, as reported by a senior BSF officer to ANI.

The political landscape in Bangladesh has been thrown into turmoil following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh Army Chief Waker-uz-Zaman announced the resignation and stated that an interim government would take over the administration. In a statement reported by Reuters, Zaman emphasized, "We will restore peace in the country. We urge citizens to cease violence. All killings over the past few weeks will be thoroughly investigated."

Despite the gravity of the situation, the army chief assured that there was no need for curfew or emergency measures, expressing confidence that the crisis would be resolved by the end of the night. Discussions are ongoing between representatives of the main political parties and the army, with Zaman calling on students to remain calm and return home.

The interim government is stepping in to restore order and address the recent unrest, maintaining a tense atmosphere within the country. To prevent any spillover of the turmoil into India and to ensure the safety and security of the border regions, the BSF has heightened its vigilance along the India-Bangladesh border.

In light of these developments, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a travel advisory strongly advising Indian nationals against traveling to Bangladesh until further notice. The advisory underscores the seriousness of the situation and the need for caution.

The MEA's statement reads: "All Indian nationals currently in Bangladesh are advised to exercise extreme caution, restrict their movements, and remain in contact with the High Commission of India in Dhaka through the following emergency phone numbers:

+8801958383679

+8801958383680

+8801937400591

This advisory aims to ensure the safety and security of Indian citizens in Bangladesh during this period of uncertainty and upheaval. The MEA continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary.
