US Doctor Who Studied 5,000 Near-Death Experiences Says This About Afterlife

A Kentucky radiation oncologist who asserts to have studied over 5,000 near-death experiences is convinced that life continues after death "without a doubt."

Dr. Jeffrey Long's interest in near-death experiences led him to establish the Near-Death Experience Research Foundation in 1998. He recently shared his insights in an essay published by Insider, where he described Near-Death Experiences (NDEs) as events where an individual, either comatose or clinically dead without a heartbeat, has a clear experience involving seeing, hearing, feeling emotions, and interacting with other beings.

Jeffrey collects and scientifically analyzes stories from individuals who report NDEs.

'There's certainly an afterlife'

"Given the overwhelming evidence, I believe there's definitely an afterlife," Jeffrey stated. He noted that while every NDE is unique, they share many consistent patterns. Approximately 45% of patients report experiencing an out-of-body sensation. Long elaborated that people often claim "their consciousness separates from their physical body, usually hovering above," allowing them to observe and hear what occurs around them.

'Greeted by deceased loved ones'

"Following the out-of-body experience, individuals often describe being transported to another realm. Many pass through a tunnel and encounter a bright light. Then, they're greeted by deceased loved ones, including pets, who appear in their prime. Most report an overwhelming sense of love and peace, feeling as though this other realm is their true home," Long further explained.

He cited an example where a woman lost consciousness while riding her horse on a trail. Her body remained on the trail, but her consciousness traveled with her horse as it returned to the barn. She later described events at the barn in detail, which others who hadn't spoken to her confirmed.

However, he admitted that he hasn't found any "scientific explanation for these experiences."

"I've reviewed brain research and considered every possible explanation for NDEs. Ultimately, none of them are satisfactory," he concluded.

Other doctors conducting similar research agree with Dr. Long and have noted some common traits in NDEs.
